Some items I would like to buy for this Spring.

For Audrey from China Glaze- I'll have to order it online. I can't find it on this island. The BX doesn't carry is brand.

Feather extensions- I could make my own if I have all the materials needed.

Clean Start- I have been wanting to try this out. Pro Active doesn't work for me.

Floral pumps- I'm seeing a lot of floral fashion on this island. I found these shoes & fall in love!

Ladies' Night Out

Last night with dining out with the ladies. We made reservation to one of the best restaurant on Okinawa. Arin Krin aka "The Garlic House"! For all you garlic loving people, this truly is the best place to get you mouth watering organism. However, I would not recommend taking someone here of a first unless you don't plan on having a kiss good night. Everything on menu is made with garlic. You can smell them cooking your food in the place. It is always busy. So the best bet is to reserve seating for a table or party. We were all so hungry but no one ate anything throughout the day from the excitement for The Garlic House. Everything we ordered, we shared. The prices were low for so much!  ¥100-900. Not bad. We had a great time. Then hit up the slots.

Office Crazy

So, I start back at work again this coming Monday! I'm actually excited about it. It's be 9 months of nothing but shopping, movies, beach, sleeping in & staying out until the early morning. I went office supply wild with Michelle this past week at the 100 Yen store... Just need to add a few new things for the desk. I went into you organize some of the things up a little. I'll manage my time to still blog, youtube and Facebook of course :)

Ready, Set, Row!

Today was the last main event for Golden Week. It is the Naha Dragon Boat Race. Memebers of Armed Forces of US Military participate in this event every year. It is one of the many great ways to meet the local nations & learn more about their culture.

Haarii are dragon-boat races, said to have been imported from China, to wish for a bumper year and pray for the safety of fishermen. Dragon-boat races are held everywhere in Okinawa, but the boats used in Naha Haarii are decorated with carvings of dragonheads and tails. The main event comes on the final day, fittingly called the main Haarii, in which 3 boats - Naha (dark green), Kume (yellow), and Tomari (black) - compete for the years grand prize, after a traditional Ugan Haarii (boat-race of prayer).

 

Golden Week

Like I have mentioned in early post. I am going to be doing a little culture in some of my blogs. While being stationed in Okinawa, Japan, I would like to share some things from here to people back in the states who don't have the opportunity to travel, would like to travel & are looking for places to visit in the world. This is great way for me to share my experiences and culture with you!

The Golden Week had began! It  is a collection of four national holidays within seven days.The Golden Week is one of Japan's three busiest holiday seasons. During Golden Week, and accommodation in tourist areas can get booked out well in advance. In this week, many families take off from work, businesses close & school is out in honor for celebration. The national holidays making up the Golden Week are:

• Showa Day (Showa no hi): April 29 is the birthday of former Emperor Showa, who died in the year 1989. Until 2006, Greenery Day (see May 4) used to be celebrated on this day.
• Constitution Day (Kenpo kinenbi): May 3, n this day in 1947, the new post war constitution was put into effect.
• Greenery Day (Midori no hi): May 4 Until 2006, Greenery Day used to be celebrated on April 29, the birthday of former Emperor Showa. The day is dedicated to the environment and nature, because the emperor loved plants and nature. Before being declared Greenery Day, May 4 used to be a national holiday due to a law, which declares a day, that falls between two national holidays, a national holiday.
• Children's Day (Kodomo no hi): May 5. the Boy's Festival (Tango no Sekku) is celebrated on this day. Families pray for the health and future success of their sons by hanging up carp streamers and displaying samurai dolls, both symbolizing strength, power and success in life. The Girl's Festival, by the way, is celebrated on March 3.

Below are some pictures of Koinobori in Japanese meaning "Carp streamer". Landscapes across Japan are decorated with koinobori from April to early May, in honor of sons and daughters in the hope that they will grow up healthy and strong. These picture were taken at the Hijagawa River early this week. Enjoy :)
